Day 29: Forces Against Us
You know those days that just get off to a bad start and you think they're going to turn around, but then things keep happening that prove to you that it's not true -- you just need to write that day off and move on? Ok well today was one of those days.
It's Tuesday--field trip day. This time we had a 7:30 departure. I kept hitting the snooze, so I got up late and then couldn't seem to wake up. This was ok though because I slept all the way on the bus. It was a 90 minute drive to our first destination of Civita di Bagnoregio. Well this 90 minute drive turned into a 2:30 drive because everywhere our driver drove, roads were closed. So we back-tracked until we finally got there. We get out of the bus and what happens? It starts raining. And who has their rain jacket and umbrella? Not a single person in the group. Why? Because we all checked The Weather Channel that morning and it said 80 degrees and sunny with not a chance of rain. So everyone immediately runs into the nearest souvenir shop and purchases an umbrella. But not me, nope. I was so furious (I think I was mostly frustrated about the fact that I bought the cutest rain coat in London and it would have been perfect to wear) about The Weather Channel lying to me, so I rebelled (a.k.a. Let my stubborness take over) and didn't buy an umbrella. So I threw my purse over my head and followed in line with the rest of the group. Civita di Bagnoregio is this little medieval city on a cliff. It has a population of 12 during winter and 100 during summer -- so it's this tiny town.

When we made it there, there wasn't much to see in my opinion so Becca and I sat in the one Bar in the town and talked to Brittany and Kate about London. We shared places, ideas and must-sees. When everyone else gave up exploring this tiny town, we made ways back to the bus. We had to wait behind another tour group to get a shuttle bus back to where our bus was parked, so more rain (yaaay). We got back to the bus, loaded up and went to our next destination.

{I was bored so I experimented with my camera. I liked how this picture came out!}
Orvieto was the second town we were visiting. Usually there is a litle train-lift-thing that takes you to the top of the town, but it was broken so we had to wait on 1 of the 2 buses that were running in it's place. It came, we got on and made it to the top. By this time it is about 12:45 and I can't barely hear anything but my stomach growling, so I was thankful when Cinzia let us break for lunch. Problem? She only gave us 45 minutes and there wasn't anything but sit-down restaurants in this town. A group of us went and sat down in one (it was the coolest restaurant). After debating whether to stay or go for like 15 minutes, we decided to stay and we all ordered. The food came out surprisingly fast, but we still had to scarf it down if we wanted to make it back in time. I hate I had to rush through my meal because I had the best pasta dish -- tortellini with leeks and bacon. I didn't even know what leeks were, but they were delicious in this dish. I'm thinking of trying to create this one on my own when I get home! We paid (against our will because there was an insane table charge we were all confused about) and left. The only two things in this town to see were the Duomo (I'm beginning to think every town has one) and Saint Patrick's Well. The Duomo was like the rest I've seen -- pretty marble and fabulous paintings. We walked to Saint Patricks Well and went inside to begin the climb. Well it's 280 steps down and 280 steps up, and I literally felt drugged I was so tired so A few of us opted out of the climb and just took pictures!

Than another complication -- the 2 shuttle buses back down. There were 3 big tour groups waiting with us to get on and every bus that pulled up wa packed. I'm thinking there wasn't even breathing room on there! So after 3 came by and we couldn't get on, Cinzia got paranoid about making it back on time with our bus drivier. So she took control and got onto the people in charge. It was so funny. Then we weasled the system and got on the empty bus going the other direction and rode it around for am extra 30 minutes. Somehow we made it and Enrico was there. I've never been so happy to see the blue bus! We got on and headed back to Ariccia.

I haven't had time to go to the supermercado yet, so Becca, Lindsay and I went to the little shops across from the Palace when we got back. We got inspired and decided to make a fruit tart for dessert after our dinner of straight vegetables. It was tough decoding the directions in Italian, but we managed! It turned out delicous--I can't believe I haven't ever made one before!

So I cut me a slice and went to watch the Bachelorette -- hoping to end my day on a good note! It ended good because I've decided out of the bunch, Ali has a couple of guys that are winners. And she has a couple of winner outfits in her closet -- I'm loving the stylist for the show (Cary Fetman) and his choices for Ali. Here are a few of my favorites:
{I'm a sucker for anything this mint green color}
{Love the simplicity of this necklace and how it dresses up the plain tshirt}
I'll leave you with those :) Over and Out from Italy!
